Tourist Office task: Welcome to Granada

CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TASKS AND RECORD A VIDEO OR AN AUDIO MESSAGE.

For the evaluation of the task, the following things will be taken into consideration:
-length (less than two minutes won't be acceptable)
-pronunciation and fluency
-content
-layout and design


TASK 1. (individual task)A group of retired historians is planning to stay in Granada for three days and they have contacted you requiring information about the city. Record a message giving them all of the following  recommendations related to:
-what to do
-where to eat/drink
-getting around (they are coming by plane)
-where to stay
-surrounding area and day trips.
-other useful information you might consider


TASK 2(individual task)A group of sportsmen is planning to stay in Granada for three days and they have contacted you requiring information about the city. Record a message giving them all of the following  recommendations related to:
-what to do
-where to eat/drink
-getting around (they are coming by train)
-where to stay
-surrounding area and day trips.
-other useful information you might consider


TASK 3(individual task)A group of women going on a hen party is planning to stay in Granada for three days and they have contacted you requiring information about the city. Record a message giving them all of the following  recommendations  related to:
-what to do
-where to eat/drink
-getting around (they are coming by car)
-where to stay
-surrounding area and day trips.
-other useful information you might consider

TASK 4. (pairwork)
Student A. Imagine you are visitor to Granada. Ask  questions using the following ideas (at least 4 questions):
-a good area for nightlife.
-a nice place to go for a coffee/picnic.
-an affordable place to eat.
-an interesting place for a day trip.
-somewhere you can go for a walk.
-the best place to go shopping.
-give directions to go somewhere.
-ask about means of transport.
-one extra question of your choice.
Student B. Give information to student A.
Then, swap roles.

Can and can't


Infinitive or -ing


INFINITIVE AND -ING

1. Verbs followed ONLY by infinitive
Want, decide, wish, agree, offer, deserve, help, promise, plan, choose, hope, arrange, threaten, seem, afford

2. Verbs followed ONLY by -ing

a)Love, like, dislike, hate, fancy, avoid, deny, miss, suggest, mind, finish, risk, practise, admit, imagine

 b)After prepositions: after, before, until, to, for, etc.

 c)After be/get used to. Example: I’m used to reading until late at night.
Look forward to             I´m looking forward to seeing you

d) after expressions like: 

can’t stop
Don’t mind
Can’t stand
It’s no use
Can’t help
It’s not worth

3. Verbs followed by –ing or infinitive


- Without change of meaning: start, intend, begin, continue, propose, bother,prefer, 

-          with change of meaning: meanremember, forget, regret ,go on, stop , try, need

Wish Clauses


I wish+ past tense: It is used to talk about imaginary situations both in the present and in the future, which are impossible to change in the real world.

  • I am a woman and I wish I didn’t have a moustache/ I wish I were rich/I wish I were/was slim.
  • (It is raining)I wish I had an umbrella.
  • I wish tomorrow were/was Saturday (Ojalá que mañana fuera sábado)


I wish+ subject (except I)+would: It is used to talk about REAL situations which usually annoy you, and that could be changed in the real world.


  • I wish he would shave. (I don’t like my husband with the beard)
  • I wish you would stop watching TV while I am talking to you(=why don’t you stop watching television while I’m talking to you. It’s annoying)

Compare:
I wish he would come(I want him to come)ACTION
I wish he were/was here with us now (SITUATION) (not * I wish he would be…)

I wish somebody would buy me an apartment by the beach. ACTION
I wish I had an apartment by the beach. SITUATION
